DB-Editor is a graphical user interface that lets you edit and create databases for Pilot-DB under MS Windows. Use it at your own risk, it is still in an early developement status. Please create a backup of important databases. The databases are normally located in the Backup directory of the Palm Desktop. DB-Editor is freeware. |

I use mobile db with mobile and desktop version
But DB editor is more kool ad complet that desktop version of mobile db

Hallo Raphael!
Verwende seit kurzem DB-Editor. Leider stürzt das Programm immer wieder ab, wenn ich mehrere Spalten mit “list” als Feldtyp verwende. Der Fehler tritt immer dann auf, wenn ich bei der die 2.”list” Spalte die Listeneinträge machen möchte. Es erscheint die Meldung: DB-Editor raised exception class EListError with message “List index out of bounds (-1)”.
Wenn ich alle Spalten erstmal auf “string” gesetzt lasse und sie erst richtig bezeichne und anschliessend den Feldtyp ändere, taucht das Problem nicht auf. Ist der Fehler bekannt?
Ist es möglich die Feldtypen auch mit deutschen Begriffen angezeigt zu bekommen?

Hallo Martin,
das letzte Update des DB-Editors ist fast fünf Jahre her. Genauso lange habe ich nicht mehr in den Quelltext geschaut. Es ist auch nicht sehr wahrscheinlich, dass ich noch einmal ein Update daran vornehme, da mir die Zeit und die Motivation (u.a mangels Eigennutz) hierfür fehlt. Sorry, dass ich dich diesbezüglich enttäuschen muss.

danke für die schnelle Antwort. Ich habe gehofft dass der Fehler evtl. bekannt ist. Dann muss ich halt künftig die richtige Reihenfolge beachten, dann geht es ja.

Yves, I totally agree with you that MacOS is an established OS. I developed DB-Editor with a windows-only tool. That was probably a mistake, but DB-Editor was firstly created out of pure personal needs. And now I just don’t have the time to port DB-Editor to another platform (that would need a complete rewrite…)

I downloaded DB-Editor to Windows XP but it does not run. When I switch to task manager the program appears to be running (and using up a lot of processes) but I can’t see it.
I previously used DB-Editor on my old laptop (Windows 2000) and it worked fine.

danke für das DB-Desktop-Programm, was ich zusammen mit dem DB auf meinem Palm 650 häufig nutze. Inzwischen habe ich einen umfangreichen Datenbestand angesammelt. Da ich gerne auchmal auf ein neues Gerät wechseln werde, und mit dem dieses jahr erscheinenden Palm Pre unter WebOS liebäugele, hier meine dringende Frage: Läuft DB auch auf WebOS und ist ein problemloser Datenabgleich mit DB-Desktop möglich??? Wenn Sie mir darauf antworten könnten, wäre ich Ihnen sehr dankbar! (Denn das gute alte Treo 650 möchte ich irgendwann gerne durch ein moderneres Smartphone auswechseln! Welches könnten Sie mir denn empfehlen, wo DB drauf läuft???)

Hallo,
man muss hier unterscheiden zwischen DB-Editor (Windows) und Pilot-DB (PalmOS). Der DB-Editor liegt von meiner Seite aus auf Eis. Ich bin mittlerweile auf MacOS und das iPhone gewechselt und habe derzeit keine Pläne eine Weiterentwicklung zu betreiben. Pilot-DB wird jedoch vermutlich auch auf dem Palm Pre laufen, da dieser WIMRE einen PalmOS-Emulator enthalten wird, mit dem auch Programme, die für PalmOS entwickelt wurden, verwendet werden können.
Mit dem DB-Editor ist es möglich, die Datenbanken in diverse Formate (bspw. CSV) zu exportieren. Ohne es genauer recherchiert zu haben, gehe ich davon aus, dass es für jedes beliebige Smartphone eine Datenbanksoftware gibt, die das CSV-Format importieren können. Ich bin im Moment sehr zufrieden mit dem iPhone. Hierfür gibt es die (kommerzielle) Software Handbase, die genau das kann.

db-Editor is a fantastic piece of software. For those who have commented about a Mac OS version, I can tell you that it works under Wine on OS X 10.4.11 (Tiger), which is almost as good as a Mac version
. I understand Raphael doesn’t have time to port it, but it’s surprising that no one else has created something like this.

The program seemed quite nice until I built a database and installed it on my palm (Z22). After that HotSync jams. First it jammed when syncing the installed databases.
After disabling synchronisation in DB-editor, HotSync jammed when making backup copies of databases. This didn’t happen with databases I had on my palm before using DB-editor. Wasn’t able to uninstall/delete the files until I installed FileZ and even after deleting the files with FileZ HotSync still Jams. Any sugestionas as to how to solve this problem?
